Bringing That ’24K Magic’ to VCE Exams

As VCE examinations begin, the MGGS community is here to support you every step of the way. These exams represent the culmination of years of dedication, and you’ve worked hard to reach this moment. We know you’re prepared, and we know you have what it takes to succeed. This period can feel intense, but with the right balance of focus and self-care, you’ll be in a strong position to achieve your best.

You Are Well Prepared

The journey to Year 12 has been one of growth, learning and commitment. From ELC to Senior Years, your teachers, wellbeing coaches and support staff have watched you strengthen your study skills, apply your learning, build resilience and embrace challenges with determination. Your preparation goes beyond the classroom; it includes the habits, knowledge and self-discipline you’ve developed in time management, critical thinking, and applying that knowledge creatively.

Class of 2024, as your motto suggests, you have that ’24k magic’. You are ready, and we are proud of the hard work you have already put in.

Prioritise Your Wellbeing

Working hard towards your goals is important, but it’s equally important to take care of yourself throughout this process. Long study sessions and high expectations can sometimes feel overwhelming, so remember to prioritise your health. Here are a few ways to help you stay balanced:

1. Sleep Well

It might be tempting to pull an all-nighter before an exam, but quality sleep is essential for memory retention and cognitive function. Aiming for 7 to 9 hours per night will help your mind stay sharp and your body energised. A regular sleep schedule will also aid focus, reduce anxiety and enhance performance.

2. Exercise Regularly

Physical activity is one of the best ways to relieve stress and boost mood. Taking a brisk walk, stretching, or heading to Artemis to use the Fitness Hub can refresh your mind and help you manage anxiety. Movement releases endorphins, which support positive emotions and improve concentration when you return to study. Grab your friends and take breaks together to give your body and your mind a study break.

3. Eat Well

During exams, your brain needs fuel. Opt for balanced meals rich in vegetables, lean proteins, fibre and healthy fats – all the good brain food! Nutrient-dense foods provide sustained energy, which is essential for peak performance. Staying hydrated is equally important, as even mild dehydration can impact focus and cognitive ability.

4. Take Breaks

Studying for hours on end without a break can lead to burnout. Incorporate short, regular breaks into your study sessions to recharge. Whether you go for a quick walk, enjoy a healthy snack, or simply sit quietly and listen to music, a podcast or meditation. These breaks give your mind a chance to rest and absorb information.

Focus on the Positives

Remember, you are not alone in this journey. Your teachers, peers, and family members are all here to support you. Surround yourself with positivity, and if feelings of stress become too much, don’t hesitate to reach out to your teachers, wellbeing coaches or other support staff for help. Think about all you have achieved so far – exams don’t define your worth or potential, they are just one part of this journey. You, who you have become, and your education are so much more than just an ATAR score.

Believe in Yourself

Each of you is capable of reaching your goals, and we believe in your ability to succeed beautifully. Focus on doing your personal best rather than striving for perfection. Trust your preparation, keep up that ’24k magic’ energy and be proud of everything you have accomplished. VCE exams are a significant milestone, and while they require hard work, resilience, and focus, they are also an opportunity to showcase all you have learned.

Your journey doesn’t end with these exams. You are prepared for success in life beyond the VCE and beyond our ‘red brick walls’. Whatever results come your way, they are just the beginning of exciting opportunities ahead.
