Melbourne Girls Grammar believes in the power of music and the important role it plays in school life. It contributes to the broader fabric of society and the development of cultural understandingOur programs offer solo and ensemble performance opportunities. We host concerts, soirees, school productions and special events each year that enable our young performers the chance to develop skills and engage in collaborative stage performances. Individual talents arcultivated, and we have seen many fine performers develop during their time at Melbourne Girls Grammar. 

Music scholarships support the development of outstanding performance skills on any brass, woodwind, string or keyboard instrument and are available to students entering Year 7 and Year 9.

Successful recipients of music scholarships will receive remission for a portion of their tuition fees for the duration of their schooling at Melbourne Girls Grammar, from the point of entry until graduation in Year 12. As well as this, recipients receive fee waivers for music tuition for lessons with our wonderful MGGS music teachers.

Eligibility

Music scholarships are made available to students for entry into: 

  • Year 7, and  
  • Year 9 

To be considered for a Music Scholarship at Melbourne Girls Grammar, candidates must have achieved the following minimum AMEB Grades (or equivalent):

  • Woodwind – AMEB Grade 3
  • Brass – AMEB Grade 3
  • Strings – AMEB Grade 6
  • Piano – AMEB Grade 6

how to apply

Candidates for music scholarships are required to register via the online application portal. In addition, candidates must complete a separate Music Scholarships Application Form, which can be downloaded at the time of registration. This form, alongside supporting evidence such as recent AMEB exam results must be submitted to our enrolments team.  

THE SELECTION PROCESS

There are three components used to identify music scholarship recipients. 

  1. Audition – candidates are invited to audition for the Director of Music at Melbourne Girls Grammar based on the strength of their application and supporting documentation.
  2. Academic Assessment – candidates for music scholarships are required to sit the academic examination conducted by Academic Assessment Services (AAS) at Melbourne Girls Grammar.  
  3. Interview with the Principal – based on the strength of their audition and performance in the scholarship test, candidates are invited to attend an interview with the Principal.

Music scholarships are awarded at the sole discretion of the Principal.
